Shy? Unassertive? Self-conscious? Embarrass easily? Public speaking fear? Avoid socializing? Difficulty meeting people or talking in groups? Think of yourself as fundamentally different, not fitting in, not good enough? Free workshop offered:
This will be an introductory, educational workshop, not a therapy session. You will not be required to talk or be put on the spot in any way during the workshop. The general approach I use is called cognitive-behavioral therapy: a practical, goal-focused, therapy in which I help you learn learn and apply concrete skills for changing your attitudes and behaviors in order to improve your mood and relationships. The workshop will also provide a brief introduction to specialized 20-week therapy groups that I offer for persons who are socially anxious and who want to work in a systematic way to overcome this problem and achieve other personal goals. If there is enough interest, I offer one group specifically for lesbians, gays, bi's and trans, and another group for the general public. If, after attending the workshop, you think you may be interested in the therapy group, then you would schedule an individual session with me during which we can explore this further. The workshop is being held in northwest Washington, DC, less than one half mile from the Tenleytown / American University Metro: 4808 43rd Place NW. When you register, I will send you a packet of information including directions and questionnaires.
